Launched in 2006, BGRoom is a relatively new backgammon room,
which is already quite successful. BGRoom offers backgammon games,
either for real money or for play money.
BGRoom is still rather new, as a result the traffic is not what
we are used to seeing at Gammon Empire / Play65. Every new player
that opens a real money account at BGRoom gets $5 for free to try
out the game and software before making a deposit.
The lobby appears somewhat messy at first (see screenshot on
top) but you will get used to it after a couple of minutes. In the
lobby you will find practice rooms (that is what BGRoom calls play
money games) and real money tables, separated in games from $1 to
$10 and $10+.
The run several free rolls per day, where the amount won is
credited to your bonus account and has to be released by earning
points.
Deposit methods:
- Bank Wire Transfer
- CashU
- MasterCard
- Moneybookers
- Neteller
- PayPal
- Visa
- Web Money
- WireCard
Software:
The BGRoom software is available as a downloadable client in
several languages (English, Hebrew, Greek and Turkish), which
installs and updates automatically. The client uses Flash to
display the board, the software is rather slow and the connection
will close after 20 minutes of inactivity.
Graphics on BGRoom are 3D and well designed (see screenshot on
top), yet the colours are a bit too dark, at least it took me a few
games to get used to it. The board can be resized to fit your
screen. There are no skins to choose from and no option for 2D
view. You can choose between 3 different game types: blitz, normal
and slow. The blitz per move is 20 seconds, the normal 30 seconds
and the slow 50 seconds.
Commission - Rake
Cash and Match Games:
| Combined Wager |
Commission % |
| $0 + |
3.9% |
Single game rake will be 3.9% flat rate. Please note that there
is a minimum rake of $0.25 per single and match games.
Example: If you win a gammon game (2 points) with an initial sum
involved of $5, then $9.22 will be added to your account and $10
will be deducted from your opponents balance. The commission is
3.9% * $20= $0.78
Match Games
| Match length |
Commission % |
| Up to 3 |
4.9% |
| 4 to 7 |
5.4% |
| 8 to 12 |
5.9% |
| 13 to 17 |
6.4% |
| 18 to 21 |
6.9% |
Example: You play a match up to 3 points with sum involved of
$20. The rake for a 3-point match has a commission of 4.9%. The
commission from each player is
$20*4.9%=$0.98 (the winner pays both their commissions, for a
total of $1.96). $18.04 will be added to the winners balance and
$20 will be deducted from the losers balance.
Additional rules
BGRoom want to encourage players to play with players of their
own level. If a player chooses to play against a player of a lower
level, then their opponent is less skilled and the chances of them
winning are greater for this reason. When this happens, the player
with the higher rating will pay an additional percentage on the
rake if they win.
To encourage players to play with players at their own level
BGRoom have applied the following rake additions for both single
and match games:
The below rake increases DO NOT APPLY to the lower ranked player
wins.
- 50% increase in rake if a player has 1 ranking group difference
between them.
- 100% increase in rake if a player has 2 ranking group
differences between them.
- 150% increase in rake if a player has 3 ranking group
differences between them.
- 200% increase in rake if a player has 4 ranking group
differences between them.
If both players have ratings over 1700 then the above increase
rules will not apply.
Also, if the lower ranked player wins the game/match, the above
increase rules do not apply.
Rankings
The ranking groups are as follows:
- Gray - New
- Green - 0-1499
- Blue - 1500-1599
- Purple - 1600-1699
- Yellow - 1700-1799
- Red - 1800 +
Every new player is assigned the gray rating specifically
classed as "New" Once gaming commences the ranking will change
accordingly. When a player is classed within the "New" group, the
calculation for rake of the green level will apply.
The Jungle Room
- All games in the Jungle Room are anonymous. When playing in the
Jungle Room, your username and player ranking will be hidden. Chat
has been disabled in the Jungle Room to prevent players from giving
away their identities.
- All single games in the Jungle Room are subject to a flat rake
of 3.9%. Matches will follow the usual pattern with no ranking
penalties.
- Minimum rake per game is $0.25.
