Paf.com is the succesor of dicearena, that is closing on
February 1st, 2012. The software and all features are the
same as dicearena at the moment.
Paf is a nice and professional online backgammon room. Paf.com
offers real money play and play money games. Even the overall
design of the lobby and the board is somewhat childish; the colours
of the board and checkers are okay. Paf.com seems like a hip and
professional backgammon room. Besides backgammon, you will find
Arcade and Casino games.
It's obviously not one of the busiest backgammon sites online,
but it does offer a quality gaming experience to players in either
play money or real money mode, which are both available.
In the lobby you can choose between "cash-games", "tournaments"
and "sit & go", with the most players in the cash-game section,
see the screenshot on top. For tournaments, there are some
scheduled event tournaments that require you to pre-register, as
well as sit & go tournaments always taking place at various
stakes. Sit & Go tournaments here are like a 4 player jackpot.
Sadly, when it comes to play money tournaments, backgammon players
only seem to be interested in playing cash games at paf.com, which
might be disappointing for those that want to try the gaming
experience without putting any money on the line.
You should check out for promotions like the qualifiers to the
"World Series of Backgammon" tournaments.

Software:
Paf.com offers a no-download, flash based backgammon software,
yet requires pre-registration, that means you can not enter the
lobby without an account.
Browser based backgammon software is an excellent solution for
those who fear to commit themselves to one backgammon room, or like
to play from internet cafes or work. Here, it does not affect the
game's look; the backgammon board has a realistic appearance (see
screenshot on top), additionally it has nice avatars you can create
for your playing self. The board can be resized and even playing
multiple games at a time is supported (but not recommended!).
As a new player you start with 1600 rating points, opposed to
other sites, where new players start with 1500 points. The formula
used to calculate the rating is a bit different then the formula
other sites use. Normally the experience (number of games played so
far) has an impact on the rating changes; here this seems to make
no difference. I could not find the formula on their web site, so
this is just from my experience.
