In the opening it is very common and normally the best move to make the bar point with the roll 61. Here it is better to make the nine point and to split the back checkers. The reason are the combination of these factors:
a) not stripping the midpoint
b) mobilize the back checkers
c) cleaning up the blots in outfield
d) making the nine point
